Bird Flu Disease
Here's a fair take on the movie which ABC will show tonight, "First Contact: Bird Flu in America" --
It's from the CDC, and attempts to take a factual look at the many events of the movie.
What's interesting is that as you read each question and answer, you'll notice that what the CDC is saying in soft, understated governmental language is that on many levels -- the movie is accurate!
Yes, it doesn't use heavy emotional dramatization, but it's saying that for the most part these things might happen.
They take issue with the mass graves part, but personally that doesn't upset me much. I want to live, not be buried in any grave! If I do die along with thousands of others, maybe mass graves will be necessary. But I am more concerned with getting through.
Of course, skeptics say that the pandemic will never happen, and I hope they're right, but the CDC is here saying in their own bureaucratic way that ABC did a lot of things right.
I agree with the observation of Michael Leavitt that people should be scared into preparing for the pandemic, not panicked by the possibility.
